Why I Do What I Do

As someone who has felt connected to others my whole life, I always knew I wanted to be here, doing what I get to do in my work with you. I knew I wanted to help individuals and couples make sense of the world and of their lives – every day, I feel so lucky to be able to support my therapy clients.

I pride myself on providing quality, evidence-based care based on my years of clinical training as a Counselling Psychologist, my lived experiences (especially as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, mother, and immigrant), and a genuine, human-to-human connection with you.

There are more details below, but the most important part is that I am an expert in connecting with, genuinely caring about, and supporting you.

Therapeutic Approach

I am an Integrative Psychologist and offer a bespoke service to each of my clients, drawing from the following therapeutic modalities:

Person Centred Humanistic Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

For my couples, I am trained in the Gottman Method, one of the gold-standard therapeutic models of supporting couples.

Online Therapy

I exclusively offer online therapy in order to make therapy services as accessible as possible. I am based in County Wicklow, Ireland and can provide services worldwide, pending local laws. Please indicate if you are located outside Ireland in your query form.

Dr. Leora DeFlumere

COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGIST

I earned my Master’s and Doctoral degrees at Trinity College Dublin (M.Sc. Applied Psychology and Doctorate in Counselling Psychology). I am a Chartered Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland.

I hold a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Anthropology from Mount Holyoke College, informing my context-aware and culturally-responsive therapeutic practice.

More About Me

I am committed to understanding my clients within their unique contexts, which informs my therapeutic approach to be socially just and culturally responsive. Collaboratively, I create bespoke, integrative therapeutic plans that align with best practices and your therapeutic goals.

I deeply enjoy working with couples and am trained in the Gottman Method of Couples’ Therapy, an evidence-based, practical approach to relationship improvement. I particularly enjoy working with neurodiverse relationships, where one partner is neurodivergent, and the other partner(s) are not.

I have specialist training in working with neurodivergent individuals and a background in identifying Autistic adults’ neurotypes using a neuro-affirmative framework. I have a particular interest and experience in supporting Autistic people who were assigned female at birth.

I have a deep interest in supporting individuals, couples, and families navigating fertility interventions, reproductive loss, or infertility. My clinical work in this area is also informed by my family’s own experiences with fertility treatment.

In addition, I have specific training in trauma-informed practice and have provided training to professionals on implementing these approaches. My award-winning doctoral research focused on post-abortion therapy experiences, deepening my commitment to feminist, trauma-informed fertility, perinatal, and postnatal mental healthcare. I have also completed specialist training in birth trauma.

Beyond my clinical work, I provide training to other health professionals on gender and sexuality diversity, drawing from both research and my own lived experience as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
